the rules of the five-day line — including what we do and do not promise about strangers.

effective august 29, 2026 · Ligare Gatherings LLC, a texas limited liability company

this page covers the “start with one stranger” text program and morestrangers.com only. everything else — your broader data rights, our intellectual property, gatherings, tickets, and connection profiles — is governed by ligare's full privacy policy and terms, which apply here too. where the two ever disagree about this program, this page wins.

1. what this is

“start with one stranger” is a recurring text message program operated by Ligare Gatherings LLC (“ligare,” “we,” “us”). it has two parts:

it is a small social experiment. it is not a dating service, a support service, a crisis line, or a substitute for professional help of any kind. if you are in crisis, please contact 988 or your local emergency number.

2. who can take part

you must be 18 or older and using a mobile number you personally control, in the united states. by signing up you confirm both. you agree not to give us a number that is not yours. if you give up or change your number, tell us.

3. the messages

messages come from Ligare Gatherings LLC, from (855) 777-9810.

4. what you write, and where it goes

this is the part worth reading twice: what you write may be sent to other participants. that is the point of the program.

before anything you write is shared, it is screened — for content that should not travel, and to remove names and details that could identify a private person. it is signed with a short anonymous description rather than your name (for example, “a night owl, in ohio”).

the screening will not pass along contact details or an arrangement to meet. phone numbers, emails, handles, addresses, and invitations to meet up or move the conversation elsewhere are blocked rather than cleaned up — by an automated check that does not rely on judgment, and by review on top of it. this is deliberate: on this line, two strangers exchange words, not whereabouts.

we never give another participant your phone number, your email address, or your full name. every message travels through us. nobody gets your contact information from us, ever.

so write as though a stranger will read it, because one will. do not send anything you would not want relayed — your own contact details, another person's private information, or anything you would regret a stranger seeing.

you keep ownership of what you write. you grant us the license described in section 10 of the full terms — in short, permission to screen it, lightly correct spelling and clarity, and share it anonymously as part of this program and our writing about it. you may ask us to stop circulating something at any time and we will honor it going forward, though we cannot retrieve what has already been delivered.

5. strangers: what we do and do not promise

the other participants are strangers. we mean that literally.

to the extent permitted by law, you agree that ligare is not responsible for the conduct, speech, or actions of other participants, whether on this line or afterward. if something you receive troubles you, tell us — reply to the message or write to [email protected]. a person reads those, and we will act.

6. things not to send

no identifying information, yours or anyone else's — no full names, phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, or social handles. no harassment, threats, hate speech, sexual content, or content targeting a protected class. no advertising, solicitation, or recruitment. nothing unlawful, and nothing that infringes someone's rights. we may decline to relay anything, and we may end your participation at any time, at our discretion.

7. how it is put together

ai carries the mail; it does not write it. software screens what people send and prepares it for delivery. every word attributed to a person was written by that person. when we tell you a stranger wrote something, a stranger wrote it.

8. no warranty, and the limit of what we owe

this program is provided “as is” and “as available.” we do not promise it will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any particular message will arrive. we disclaim all warranties to the fullest extent the law allows.

to the fullest extent permitted by law, ligare will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to this program, including anything said or done by another participant and any contact between you and another participant, on this line or off it. our total liability for all claims relating to this program will not exceed the greater of (a) what you have paid ligare in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) one hundred dollars ($100).

some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for gross negligence, willful misconduct, fraud, or personal injury caused by our negligence.

9. you cover us

you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Ligare Gatherings LLC and its members, employees, and contractors from any claim, damage, loss, or reasonable legal fee arising from what you write, what you do with what you receive, your contact with another participant, or your breach of these terms.

10. changes, law, and the rest

we may update this page; material changes will be posted here with a new effective date, and continuing in the program means accepting them. this page is governed by the laws of the state of texas without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and any dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in harris county, texas. before filing anything, please write to us — most things can be resolved by a conversation. if a provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. sections that should survive by their nature — the license, the disclaimers, the limitation of liability, and the indemnity — survive.

11. reaching a person

write to [email protected], or reply to any message on the line. a human reads those.
